A vocalist blessed with extraordinary timbre, effortlessly dancing around a multitude of musical genres, though favoring jazz, soul and r’n’b.
There’s a good reason why critics refer to her as most ‘black’ of the polish female singers.
Born in Warsaw, September 20, 1972, in a family of musicians. Living up to her family roots, she began her musical education at the age of 7, attending violin class at Emil M³ynarski Musical School.
Graduated Karol Szymanowski Music High School and Art Stage Study Center in Warsaw.
Independently to her musical career, she fulfilled her second passion – psychology, graduating the Psychology Deparment at SWPS University in Warsaw.
Since 2012, she is a member of management team for Irena Kwiatkowska’s Patrimony, acting in favour of creative work for children.
Dorota’s life is rich in musical experiences. She recorded her first radio audition songs at the age of 3.
During high school, she began a longstanding collaboration with Radio ZET (recording for commercials) and hosted a musical program ‘HIT’ for ‘Polskie Radio Program IV’.
In 1997, she began working with various media conglomerates such as ITI, Postmeridian, Studio Start International and Cafe Ole, and with great success.
For her work in polish version of Hercules (1997), she received a special congratulatory letter from Disney Character Voices International, Inc. – having been praised as best foreign language version in Europe.
Her first solo album SEKRET came out in 1997, under Warner Music Poland label. It received favorable reviews, with lots of positive feedback. The hit single ‘Zapomnienie da nam czas’ and its music video directed by Maciej Tyszkiewisz, gained a lot of popularity.
In 2002, upon invitation from PTPI (People To People International), she toured in Japan.
During a 3 yeard period since 2004, she was a soloist in ‘Tryptyk Świętokszyski’, conducted by Piotr Rubik and Zbigniew Książek. For her outstanding work in two oratorios – Tu Es Petrus and Psałterz Wrześniowy, she received a double, and a single diamond album.
Her second solo album ‘SONI’ ‘SONI’ (2008), features elven english-speaking covers of famous hits from the 70’s, under fresh arrangement by Krzysztof Herdzin. The album was critically acclaimed, praised by rewievers as well as fans of Dorota’s voice.
She collaborated with many distinguished artists, among others with: jazz band Walk Away, female vocalist Urszula Dudziak, composer Krzesimir Dębski, pianist Włodzimierz Nahorny, Zygmunt Kukla’s Big Band and Skaldowie group.
For nearly a decade, she performed in tv’s popular ‘Kabaret Olgi Lipińskiej’, and during years 2002-2005, she co-stared with Irena Kwiatkowska in the latter’s recital.
She took part in a number of television shows, such as M-Kwadrat (by Wojciech Mann and Krszystof Materna), Irena Kwiatskowka’s benefit performance, Ryszard Poznakowski’s benefit performance, various music-themed tales for children (starring Janusz Józefowicz, Piotr Machalica, Jacek Wójcicki), Jerzy Kryszak’s cabaret, Polskie Lato (“Polish Summer”) and Od Przedszkola do Opola (reknowed singing talent show for children).
Since 2014, she performs in a music play ‘Wanna Archimedesa’, directed by Krzysztof Jaślar, with music by Krystyna Kwiatkowska. The play is shown in Rampa Theatre.
Currently, alongside Gabriela von Seltmann, Kamila Baar-Kochańska, Paweł Szamburski, Patryk Zakrocki and Benjamin Bukowski, she works in “Fire bird” – a spectacle with lyrics by Zuzanna Ginczanka, in which Dorota sings and co-creates music.
